ஜ, ஷா, ஹ, க்ஷ, இவை வடமொழி எழுத்துக்கள் என்று தவறாக, திராவிட கட்சிகளால் சொல்லப்பட்டது. பாட புத்தகங்களில் கூட வடமொழி எழுத்துக்கள் என்று தலைப்பிடப்பட்டது. உண்மையில் இவை "பிற மொழி உச்சரிப்புகளை தமிழில் எழுத உதவும் வரிவடிவம்" என்று தலைப்பிட்டு இருக்க வேண்டும். இவ்வரி வடிவங்களை தமிழுக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்தவர்கள் தமிழர்களே. ஆனால் அரசியல் காரணங்களால் வட மொழி மீது வெறுப்பு ஏற்படுத்தி பிரசாரம் நடந்தது. அவர்கள் நடத்தும் பத்திரிகைகளில் இரட்டை நடைமுறை பயன்படுத்துவார்கள்.
உதாரணமாக அவர்கள் கட்சியைச் சேர்ந்த ஸ்டாலின், ஜெயராமன், குரேஷி ஆகியோருக்கு பெயரை அப்படியே போடுவார்கள். ராஜாஜிக்கு மட்டும் ராசாசி என்று போடுவார்கள். இப்பொழுது கூட சில பத்திரிகைகளில் "செயலலிதா" என்று போடுகிறார்கள். இதனால் ஆங்கிலம் மற்றும் பிற மொழி வார்த்தைகளை தமிழில் தவறாக எழுதும் போக்கு காணப்படுகிறது. பிற மொழி பெயர்கள், பழமொழிகள் ஆகியவற்றைக் கையாளும் பொது அம்மொழியினர் எவ்வாறு உச்சரிப்பார்களோ அவ்வாறே , எழுதவேண்டும், உச்சரிக்கவேண்டும் என்பது பொது விதியாகும். பிற மொழி வார்த்தைகள் பழமொழிகள் வழக்கு மொழிகள் ஆகியவற்றை எவ்வளவு அதிகமாக தமிழில் பயன்படுத்துகிறோமோ அந்த அளவுக்கு தமிழ் வளரும் என்பதில் ஐயமில்லை.

Reservation menace!

Recently I read an article in the New Indian Express captioned "No to caste enumeration". The politicians when they are pressed by Caste organisations for more reservations, new reservations and for inclusion in the list of Backward classes/most backward classes/scheduled caste /tribe and when they are questioned by right thinkers that how you have decided about 'educational backwardness' of a certain caste without proper statistics on the population of the caste and the number educated among them they reply and pressurise Govt. to order caste wise Census. The article categorically opposed such moves. The author is socialogy professor in Anna University.

All the present day evils on reservation started only when the Constitution amendment included the two words "and educationally" to the existing sentence giving power to the State to provide reservation to the "Socially..Backward Classes". To measure educational backwardness among castes there is no proper statistics and the Govt. is including castes only on the basis of the voting and other muscle power of the caste organizations.

During Vanniars' agitation, in Tamilnadu, all the caste organizations met MGR who was the then CM and demanded reservations for their castes also. MGR told them to furnish statistics about the number of people in their respective castes and when they furnished the figures it amount to thrice the population of Tamilnadu.

The clamour for inclusion in the backward classes list is comparatively more in Tamilnadu. Each and every caste started their own organizations to put forth their demands and came to the streets with sevaral kinds of agitations. Accordingly the Government's list of backward classes also increased day by day and culminated in notifying 215 castes as backward classes.

There is a little difference in the names of castes found in 'forward'list and backward list. Therefore it has become easy for the forward castes also to get caste certificates as the one belonging to backward classes thanks to the all prevalent corruption among Govt. officials. It is quite common to see forward class people such as 'kamma naidu' 'kappu naidu' 'vellala mudaliar' 'veerakkodi vellalar''beri chetty' and several others as 'kavarai', 'thuluva vellalar' 'sozhia vellalar' 'vania chetty' to quote certain examples.

There were 40 Kamma naidu families in a tiny hamlet in 1970. A minister in the Tamilnadu Government does belong to that village and caste. Now there are only 3 families and all the others have obtained backward classes certificates.

At present if castewise Census is ordered to be done in Census 2011, according to Census ACt, the census enumerators have no power to enquire into the veracity of the particulars furnished by a citizen in the Census. So, when one citizen says that he belonged to certain caste the enumerator has to simply write it down. Even if certain powers are invested to him, the enumerator can only demand proof and they will eventually produce certificates from the Tahsildar or ask them to give time to obtain and produce one. Moreover if caste wise census is taken that would only facilitate such people mentioned in the previous paragraph.

The politicians and the vote bank politics are to be blamed for taking our society to this point of no return in regard to the problems of castes and reservations. Moreover they will only care about reservtions to higher education and govt. clerical jobs. They won't care about to send all children of school going age to primary and high schools without omission. Even after 62 years of independance this has not been achieved.

A thorough study in this regard should be undertaken along with Census 2011 formulating a fool proof procedure in consultation with jurists, educationists and intellectuals. Reservations might continue only on that bais, if it was found useful.

Value of a statue!

Well. I was rather surprised to read an article in a newspaper which started as follows: "Installing a statue follows the yogic priniple of Dharana (concentration). It is the same philosophy from which the idol worship is born and has the same benefits in connecting the mind to the supreme consciousness, if it is an idol of god." It also advised people to stand before the statue and spend some time before it thinking of the persons responsible for erecting it, and the person who lived once done something in this mundane world and now standing as a statue. In the same article exerts were given from what Tamilnadu Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidhi spoke. He quoted SIVA VAKKIAR, a Siddh Mahapurush who said:

"You guys put flowers to stone planted on the ground;
call it god and go around muttering mantras:
Will that stone talk when the divine is with you"
The meaning of this sloka counters idol worship. (It suggests Dhyana, meditation for Self realization.) Atheists often misquote it for their arguments.

The "Agama Sashtra" by our ancient RISHIs explain idol worship in a different angle. The idol should be consecrated by a known RISHI, Acharya or a pious religious leader whose credentials are widely accepted in the circle of Bakthas. He should be selfless. Then all the good people, bakthas should daily visit the temple and worship them. (Always good people are in majority. Bad people are minority) They should worship the omnipresent, omnipotent God through this idol; in this idol. The collective strength of good thoughts, prayer, manthras and Dhyana Sakthi goes to the idol. If a man with wavering mind comes to the temle and offers prayer at the idol, the god through this idol blesses him with peace and tranquility. So the power (Sakthi) goes from Bakthas to the idol and comes back to the people who worship the idol. It is a cycle. (Agama Sashtra as explained by Sri Swami Vivekananda).

Therefore these kind of statues standing in the road erected with an eye on votes or to disturb certain groups of people would never give you any Dharana (concentration) of mind.

Swiss Bank!

News has come that Swiss Bank would not welcome the name-fishing efforts by India.
Corrupt politicians, income-tax cheeters, black-money holders, corrupt bueruacrats and big business tycoons hoard their black money in Swiss Banks. The top-most persons should be from India. American Govt. frequently contact these banks and take an account of secret accounts of Americans. But countries like India would not be allowed to check or collect details about the secret accounts or the money hoarded there. When such a problem arose in their country, the Russia - this was before prestroica/glassnost - sent a war-ship and rained bombs on Switzerland, to instil fear among those banks so that they would not get deposits from the corrupt bueruacrats of USSR. But these Swiss Banks only allow Americans to take particulars of secret acounts.
But the ruling Congressmen would be laughing behind the back of the opposition.
So, unless the Union Government take earnest and stern steps in this direction by taking up the matter globally, nothing will come to light.

Come September!

In India under Congress rule only hoarders blackmarketeers and tycoons earned well and continue to earn well. They won't pay tax. They need not pay anything to Govt. You can usually note down by August end September beginning Delhi will issue a warning to sugar hoarders. The festival season is coming. They will hoard sugar, the circular will reiterate. This year Dr.Manmohan Singh,has taken the role in mid-August itself. He has issued warning to hoarders. He has also instructed the State Governments to act firmly to curb illicit trading clandestine movement of essential commodities etc. etc. blaw blaw. But the hoarders, clandestine and illegal merchants known them well. They have already foreseen drought and hoarded allthe essential commodities to their heart's content. The rice is selling at Rs.40- per kg. and it will soar more. The prices of Toor Dhall, green dhall, black gram have already reached saturation point. The Government both Delhi and in the States are silently witnessing the soaring prices. What the Delhi Government has proposed to do? The P.M. has not told anything explicitly.

Joint Statement with Gilani!

Our Prime Minister was blasted and bamboozled on all sides for his joint statement with Pak. premier Gilani. He has allowed to mention about Indians work(!) in Balochistan and other places. In Indira Gandhi's regime, India conducted a SINDHI conference at Gujarat and invited mostly important persons from SINDH province of Pakistan. They attacked the Pak. Government in their speeches that Sindhis are treated as second-class citizen in Pakistan. They even suggested bifurcation. But Pak. premiers have not suggested anything like 'you stop your activities, I stop mine'. Of all the Prime Ministers of Pakistan, Gilani has the lesser popularity and in order to boost his image, he has successfully made Dr.Manmohan Singh to include Balochistan in the joint statement. Indians are wary about the RAW. Its inactivity and inability was widely criticized. When unified Russia was there, they subscribed things from them. This department is directly under the control of the PM. To make Indians think that RAW is doing something in our enemy's land, perhaps Dr.Manmohan Singh has allowed to include Balochistan version.

India's sorry state of diplomacy!

India under Congress rule, has deteriorating standards in Diplomacy was and is not able to play a role in Afghanistan.

During 1981, New Delhi has invited Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, popularly known as Frontier Gandhi at the time of freedom-fighting days, for the Independance day celeberations, to be its Chief Guest. India has also awarded Rs.One Crore to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan for his yeomen services during fight for independence.

But during IC814 hijacking we were not able to secure support form Afghanistan. Not even a single voice heard from any tribal or other groups of Afghanistan in support of our claim.

At least now, we should wake up and strive to earn friendship by initiating diplomatic ties with all the tribal and regional leaders in Afghanistan.
